Arizona border patrol break up illegal immigrant ring, smuggling people in car trucks

U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered two illegal immigrants locked in a vehicle’s trunk during an immigration inspection stop near Lukeville, Arizona, Monday night.

Around 6:30 p.m., Tucson Sector agents with a Border Patrol canine conducted a stop on a Dodge Challenger driving north on State Route 85. Following the canine’s alert, agents opened the trunk and discovered two men crammed inside.

Agents immediately provided the men with face masks and placed them in an air-conditioned patrol vehicle. The outside temperature at the time was near 100 degrees.

The U.S. citizen driver was arrested on federal human smuggling charges. The two men, both Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States, were expelled to Mexico under Title 42 authority.

Tucson Sector agents continue to encounter smugglers dangerously treating humans as cargo. Smugglers risk the lives of vulnerable people without regard for their health or safety, putting profit over human life.
