Fantastic Negrito, an African-American singer-songwriter specializing in blues, R&B and roots music, is scheduled to perform on April 7 at the 2018 Safety Harbor SongFestfor the second consecutive year.
Last year, Negrito was awarded a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album for his record “The Last Days of Oakland” at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
“Safety Harbor is becoming my second home,” says Negrito. “I was first introduced to this community through Chris Cornell. I feel the truest vibration of love from these good people!”
Born Xavier Dphrepaulezz, Negrito’s musical style is self-described as “black roots music for everyone,” blending old school blues with modernized loops, slide guitar and drums.
“We are so happy Xavier and the band are coming back,” says Todd Ramquist, SHAMc co-founder and festival organizer. “He truly embodies the spirit of our festival and his talent is limitless.”
The annual Safety Harbor SongFest, now in its fifth year, is scheduled to take place April 7, and will also feature musical performances by Josh Ritter, Larkin Poe, Selwyn Birchwood, Meiko, Danielle Mohr, Betty Fox, Mountain Holler, Kristopher James, Ari Chi, The Urban Gypsies of Florida, Jonnie Morgan, and Ezra Huleatt of Black Taxi.
Organizers of SongFest recently announced the addition of Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root to the main stage lineup.
