Florida Cancer Specialists Physician Recognized for Her Expertise and Leadership

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) is pleased to announce that FCS physician Dr. Faithlore Gardner has been appointed as a Session Chair for one of the Oral Abstract Sessions at the 2019 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)Annual Meeting, which will be held in Chicago, IL, May 31 – June 4, 2019. Expected to draw over 40,000 attendees, the ASCO annual meeting is the largest gathering of oncologists in the world. This year’s theme is “Caring for Every Patient, Learning from Every Patient.”

In 2018, Dr. Gardner, who practices in Fort Myers, FL, was named to the prestigious ASCO Scientific Program Committee, which is responsible for reviewing the thousands of research reports (abstracts) that are submitted each year to ASCO. The committee then decides which abstracts will be presented at the Annual Meeting.

According to FCS Director of Research Operations Dr. James Reeves, being chosen as a Session Chair is a very big honor. As Dr. Reeves explained, “Historically, appointment to ASCO committees and Session Chairs at the ASCO meeting has been reserved for academic physicians rather than community oncologists.  Faith was recognized by ASCO last year for her expertise, research leadership, and organizational leadership in Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO), and, as a result, she was appointed to the Scientific Program Committee, which reviews This committee reviews the abstracts (research reports) that are submitted for presentation at the ASCO meeting each year.

The leaders of this committee noted Faith’s skills and awarded her the Session Chair.  During the Oral Abstract Session, she will introduce the speakers and their abstracts and moderate questions and debate.  Her position on the podium is obviously a major accomplishment, not just for Faith but for Florida Cancer Specialists, as well.”
