The James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa has reported the first COVID-19 Omicron variant in the state of Florida.
According to a hospital spokesperson, “The patient is experiencing mild symptoms and had recently returned from international travel.”
In addition, hospital officials said:
Our providers were able to quickly detect, test, confirm and add this data our developing understanding of this strain.

It is critical for people to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The Omicron variant has been reported in at least 18 states to date.
