Salta reports nearly 500 Salmonella cases in January

The Ministerio de Salud Pública de Salta has reported 482 confirmed Salmonella cases through January 25 this year. Of the 23 departments in Salta, 19 have reported cases.

The data shows that 72.8% of the cases correspond to children from 0 to 14 years.

Regarding the location of cases, the department with the highest number is Capital, with 366, which means 76% of the total.

In 2021, Salta province saw about 1700 total confirmed Salmonella cases.

Most people infected with Salmonella experience diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Symptoms usually start 6 hours to 6 days after swallowing the bacteria. Most people recover without treatment after 4 to 7 days.

Some people – especially children younger than 5 years, adults 65 years and older, and people with weakened immune systems – may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization.
