Tampa Walmart attacked by looters, stealing over $100K in merchandise

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said people armed with hammers and other blunt objects smashed their way into the Tampa Walmart on East Fletcher Avenue after 9 p.m. May 30 during a George Floyd protest.

Detectives believe approximately 200 people entered the store and said most began looting the electronics section with one person being caught on camera stealing a television.

The crime was caught on camera and now investigators need help getting names to all the faces to make an arrest for the theft of estimated $116,000 in merchandise and additional cost of damages

“Not only is this violence completely unacceptable, it was disrespectful to the protesters who were out there that night trying to express their message in an impactful way,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. ”

At the time of the looting, this was closed because of protests at the nearby University shopping mall.
