According to court documents, Schoffman, a first-year law student at the time, was part of a group of individuals who used a messaging application to send and receive images of child pornography.

The group went by the name “YoungTorture” and circulated images of children as young as infants being sexually abused by adults. Schoffman was an active participant in the group, and at the time of his arrest possessed 1,012 images and 416 videos depicting child pornography.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Embry J. Kidd.

It is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
