Carolyn Wright accidentally shot by daughter, Jessica Wright in Tampa home

A Tampa woman was killed Friday morning when she was accidentally shot by her daughter. Identified as Carolyn Wright by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the woman died at the scene in from of the teen shooter.

Jessica Wright, 33, became angry at one of her sons who brought a gun home. She unloaded the weapon and then, thinking it was empty, accidentally fired the gun, striking her mother with the bullet in the chamber, killing Carolyn.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Carolyn Wright, 52, was shot in the upper body, died at the scene.

Deputies said one of the teenagers panicked, picked up the gun and ran down the street and threw the gun into a storm drain. The gun was recovered.

Detectives are investigating to determine where the gun came from.

Deputies said multiple family members live at the residence, including four children aged 17, 15, 13 and 8.

The Tampa Bay Times noted that Carolyn Wright went twice a week to her church, the Harvest Time Worship Center, and was known for her cheerful and joking personality in spite of her regular dialysis sessions.

Pastor Sheila Ramdial spoke with the Times, saying that the last time she spoke to her pastor, Wright asked when the church would next visit a local mobile home park to give out food and clothing.

She had a servant’s heart, the Pastor said.
