Chile: Hantavirus death reported in Maullín, Los Lagos

Health authorities are investigating the death of a man with suspected Hantavirus in Maullín, in the region of Los Lagos.

The patient was admitted to the Hospital of Temuco.

According to the information received, on Friday he took a rapid test that tested positive for Hantavirus and was transferred to the region of La Araucanía, where he passed away on Sunday morning.

The deceased man, age ~40 years, lived in the coastal area of Astillero.

Therefore, in this area an environmental epidemiological investigation was carried out to establish the site of infection.

The Health SEREMI of Los Lagos , Marcela Cardenas, said that among the possible locations is a nearby warehouse to the home of the man where he worked.
