Crime rates down in Hillsborough County in 2019

Sheriff Chad Chronister is pleased to announce that, once again, crime rates are down in Hillsborough County, despite the population increasing.

As the population rose in Hillsborough County from 964,883 to 985,681 between 2018 to 2019, there were 1,260 fewer crimes in 2019.

“In the last 13 years, I’m very proud to say this is the 12th year that crime has gone down, despite the number of people we serve in Hillsborough County increasing significantly. I believe it is a testament to our commitment to not only protecting and serving our residents but also educating them on how to avoid becoming a crime victim and where to turn to for help,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are working every day to prevent crime through community outreach and new community policing initiatives, but it all comes back to our employees and their dedicated efforts.”

According to Uniform Crime Report (UCR) data, from 2018 to 2019, there were fewer homicides, robberies, burglaries, larcenies, vehicle thefts, and aggravated assaults.
