Florida crime rate at 50-year low: FDLE

Last week, Florida’s First Lady, Casey DeSantis tweeted:

The crime rate in Florida is at a 50-year low – proof that being tough on crime and supporting our brave law enforcement officers works!

Many on Twitter questioned the tweet with a plethora of snarky and ridiculous comments; however, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) confirms Mrs. DeSantis’ tweet in a report.

Crime is down in Florida for a 50-year low, according to the 2021 Annual Uniform Crime Report. The report covers the calendar year of 2021 and shows Florida’s total crime volume dropped 8.3 percent, or 38,524 fewer reported index crimes, compared to 2020.

Both violent and property crimes decreased in 2021.  Domestic violence was also down.
