June is National Pet Preparedness Month. As we gear up for hurricane, wildfire and tornado seasons, and having witnessed an uptick in natural disasters over the past few years, there’s no better time to create awareness for this critical topic.
During the panic of a natural disaster, people often forget essential items (let alone their pets). That’s why your audience should proactively create a pet emergency kit now, so every dog’s and cat’s needs are accounted for in a crisis.

- Enough food & water for a minimum of 3 days with travel can opener (if needed)
- Dog water bottle and collapsible bowl (to easily dispense on the go)

- Blankets or towels for warmth and dryness
- Grooming brush and disinfectant wipes
- Extra bags to collect waste (and litter if there are cats in the household)
- Detailed photos and description of pets and an ID tag with your current cell phone number (in case of separation)
- Vaccination documents, medications and vet’s contact information (ASPCA has a mobile app to store all this info electronically
