Neil Young: ‘A podcast platform don’t need you around anyhow’

Just a couple of days after the legendary rock and folk musician gave podcast platform, Spotify, an ultimatum of himself or extremely popular talk host Joe Rogan, Spotify is in the process of removing Neil Young’s catalog of music from its service.

The now deleted letter from Young went like this:

“I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” he wrote. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.”

“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he continued. “They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.”

Two days after the letter was published, Spotify is now in the process of removing Young’s music from the streaming service.

“We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon,” a Spotify spokesperson said.

Young is expected to lose 60 percent of his streaming revenue by pulling his catalogue off of Spotify.

In the NYA Times-Contrarian (contrarian?, that’s ironic), Mr. Young wrote Wednesday: SPOTIFY has become the home of life threatening COVID misinformation. Lies being sold for money.

To close this out, I found one person’s comment on social media about Neil Young’s stance that really sums it up:

Neil Young is the perfect example of yesterday’s anti-establishment cultivated personality becoming today’s establishment fascists trying to silence voices that disagree with big brother’s narrative

Maybe Neil and Joe should do a long form interview on this and other topics–that would be a interesting conversation.
