DOH-Hillsborough issues mosquito-borne illness advisory due to Eastern Equine Encephalitis

The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (DOH-Hillsborough) advises residents and visitors that there has been an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity in northwestern Hillsborough County. Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been detected in two horses, heightening the risk of transmission to humans. Hillsborough County Mosquito Control and DOH-Hillsborough continue surveillance and prevention efforts.

Mosquito Bite Prevention

Using the right insect repellent and other preventive actions can discourage mosquitoes from landing on you. Follow these Drain and Cover tips to help prevent mosquito bites.

Drain water from outside areas to reduce the number of places mosquitoes can lay their eggs and breed.

Cover with protective clothing while outdoors and keep doors and windows closed to prevent mosquitoes from going indoors.
