Dyer-Mitchell was identified by the hoodie he was wearing: black with “POWER” in white font on the front. The was from the Powerhouse Gym Miami where he was a member.

Police searched his apartment and found an IWI Masada 9mm pistol and an additional 9mm magazine.

He was then arrested about five hours after the fatal shooting at a nearby sixth-floor apartment in the Liberty Village condominium building across the street from the gas station.

Police have released the surveillance video which show the shoplifting effort gone badly after a brief confrontation with the store staff.

The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL) today applauded the swift action taken by the Miami Police Department in apprehending the suspect.

CAIR-FL’s Executive Director Imam Abdullah Jaber said: “The level of violence affecting our community is worrisome. Two Muslim brothers, Shamun Shaukat and Shahbaz Hussein, shot dead and a third individual Elijah Shorter injured is not normal and will never be acceptable under any circumstances. We ask our community to be carefully aware for their safety.”

Imam Jaber added: “We publicly commend law enforcement agencies expedited actions leading to the arrest of the criminal thug allegedly responsible for this heinous crime.”

Dyer-Mitchell is facing second-degree murder charges in the triple shooting.

Dyer-Mitchell has a long list of arrests.
Miami Beach police officers arrested Dyer-Mitchell on Jan. 3, 2022, in South Beach after accusing him of placing a nail between his knuckles and punching a man with it in the face outside of a hostel.

Records show witnesses told Miami Beach police officers that Dyer-Mitchell was drinking straight out of a bottle of vodka and police officers found ecstasy and marijuana in his backpack.

Court records show Miami-Dade prosecutors dropped the marijuana possession charges.

The court withheld adjudication on the felony charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a controlled substance, and on the alcohol-related municipal ordinance, records show.

Court records show that without having to go to prison with a 2-year probation sentence, corrections released Dyer-Mitchell to the Camillus House for services. His probation started on June 22, 2022, and ended on Sept. 11.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
