Green Day attacks Trump, MAGA with New Year’s performance

Green Day transformed the ABC’s New Year’s Eve television special into an attack on President Trump’s supporters with their lyric change.

The band’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong altered lyrics during Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

Here’s how the lyrics were originally written:

Well, maybe I’m the f****t, America
I’m not a part of a redneck agenda
Now everybody, do the propaganda
And sing along to the age of paranoia

And here’s the version Green Day performed on the New Year’s Eve special:

Well, maybe I’m the f****t, America
I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda
Now everybody, do the propaganda
And sing along to the age of paranoia

Trump fans were not so keen to embrace the new lyrics or a bunch of middle-aged men prancing around on stage wearing guy liner.

“So Green Day supports corporate oligarchs, globalist scum, puppet dictators, the death of the American Dream, and the erosion of personal freedom and Liberty,” one person wrote on X. “That’s so rock n’ roll.”

“I just lost all respect for Green Day,” another said, while a third wrote, “Well Green Day is dead to me now!”
