‘Amber vs Predator’: New Dan Trachtenberg film to star ‘Legion’ actress in feminist reboot

Disney bought Fox and now control the Predator franchise, so it shouldn’t surprise fans to see the new film’s casting as a nod to feminism and social justice norms.

10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg is heading up this latest effort to make a Predator follow-up that’s worthy of the original (which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger) by casting 24-year-old Legion actress Amber Midthunder in the role of “Kee.”

Details on the new film, nicknamed “Predator 5”:

“The story will follow Kee, a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior. Many years ago – in a time before any Europeans had ever encroached on their lands – the Comanche people had a well-defined society and gender norms. Kee is very close to her younger brother, Taabe, who is being groomed as a leader. As capable as any young man in the tribe, Kee has always been a teacher and source of inspiration for Taabe. In the Comanche way – she is Patsi – the elder sister that has helped to shape him. Kee is a truth-teller and has insight that others do not. A tomboy, she wants to prove herself in the masculine world of the Comanche. When danger threatens them all – Kee sets out to prove that she is as capable as any young warrior.” —AvP Galaxy

KEE – Female; 19 years old; Comanche. Her name, “Kee”, means “no” in Comanche. A name she has earned by perpetually refusing to do as she is told her entire life. POPS COMMENTARY

Red flags abound in the news as the young girl is breaking “gender norms and traditions to become a warrior” to battle the Predator.

Yep, what could go wrong?

Shane Black’s reboot entitled The Predator proved to be a disappointment, grossing just $160 million worldwide, so how much will a Comanche warrior woman squaring off against an alien from the Predator’s species draw at the theaters?

Midthunder is perhaps best known for playing Kerry Loudermilk, a mutant who shares a body with her twin brother scientist Cary Loudermilk, in the FX Marvel series Legion.

This is a role where she had very little dialogue and seems unlikely to be ready to rise the headline level of carrying a major motion picture, let alone a franchise.

How long until fans photoshop Gina Carano into posters and promotional material to hint at a believable female who could at least pull off the role.

Disney and Fox’s Predator 5 reportedly casts Legion star Amber Midthunder. 1987’s man-versus-alien movie Predator was a memorable action vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger and is now considered a classic. Unfortunately none of that movie’s various sequels, spinoffs and reboots have managed to capture the magic of the original.

The last time someone tried bringing the Predator series back was of course in 2018, but Shane Black’s reboot entitled The Predator proved to be a disappointment, grossing just $160 million worldwide. The future of the Predator franchise became doubtful after that failure, but last November it was revealed that a new Predator is in fact coming courtesy of the Disney-owned 20th Century Studios. 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg is heading up this latest effort to make a Predator follow-up that’s worthy of the original. Nothing has been confirmed about the plot, but reports surfaced a few months ago saying the movie is set in the past, and involves a Comanche warrior woman squaring off against an alien from the Predator’s species.
