The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) report investigating a shooting at the St. Joseph’s Hospital South located at 6901 Simmons Loop in Riverview.
According to officials, just before noon on Friday, March 13, 2020, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received two 911 calls in regards to a shooting that had occurred in the parking lot of the hospital.
This was not a random act of violence, as the two men involved knew each other. Both had received treatment from the hospital earlier in the day. An altercation took place in the parking lot, and at some point, one of the men shot the other. The shooter is 27-years-old and the man who was shot is 35 years of age. The weapon has been recovered, and there are no other suspects at this time. The shooter is cooperating with detectives.
The shooter did not enter the hospital following the incident.
The man who was shot was initially treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital South, but was later transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa due to the severity of his injuries.
Employees, patients, and the general public were never in any danger during the course of this incident.
