France: Free condoms in pharmacies for 18-25 year olds, Emmanuel Macron announces

Access to male condoms will be free in pharmacies for young people aged 18 to 25 from January 1, Emmanuel Macron announced Thursday, December 8, 2022.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the President of the Republic’s participation in a territorial session of the National Council for Refoundation (CNR) Health in Fontaine-le-Comte (Vienne).

In pharmacies, the condom will be free for 18-25 year olds. It will start on January 1. It’s a small prevention revolution. —        Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic

This announcement is in addition to several measures already taken to improve the sexual health of young people:

  • free contraception for young women up to and including 25 years old ;
  • generalization of access to HIV serological screening in all medical biology laboratories without a prescription and with 100% reimbursement;
  • extension of non-prescription screening in medical biology laboratories to other STIs and 100% coverage of screening for those under 26;
  • 100% coverage of emergency contraception for all without prescription.
