Philippines: Shooting at Ateneo de Manila University leaves 3 dead, injures two

A shooting at the Areté, Loyola Heights campus of the Ateneo de Manila University on July 24 has left three people dead and two injured.

crime sceneThe National Capital Region Police Office says the dead include Rosita Furigay, former mayor of Lamitan City in Basilan province; Victor George Capistrano, the executive assistant of Furigay; and university security guard Jeneven Bandiola.

The alleged gunman, 38-year-old Chao Tiao Yumul has been detained.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm, an hour before the start of the 2022 commencement exercises of the Ateneo de Manila School of Law at Areté Sunday afternoon.

The shooting has been described as a targeted assassination.
